This sculpture can be seen as a monument. A place to reflects on what is going on during a big event like the Dutch TT in Assen. On both sides of the monument we find figurative motorcycles that have provided the driving power behind an endless chain for 90 years. On one hand the motorcycle is symbolised by an octopus. The octopus represents the board of the TT, that year after year and with a tireless commitment take care of the whole event. Every year the audience will get to see a spectacular event led by folk hero Valentino Rossi, which is cleary reflected in the visitor numbers.
On the dark side of the event we see the effects of progressive technology. The engine, in the form of a speedometer, pushes the participating racers along the chain to ever higher speedslimits. Unfortunately we are aware of the consequences.
This side is also in memory of the following drivers:
† 1948 – Gosta Lönnfors (Finland, 350 cc)
† 1962 – Hans Debt (Netherlands, 50 cc, last training day)
† 2013 – Sandor Pohl (Germany, Sidecar side kick Stefan Kiser)
