Narrative
Mexican writer Octavio Paz explained: “The Mexican … is familiar with death, jokes about it, caresses it, sleeps with it, celebrates it.”
This special attitude towards death is represented in this painting, based on Frida Kahlo’s self-portrait “Me and My Parrots” (1941), by the colorful skulls/petals, because death is an omnipresent theme in her work, due to her fragile health.
